On The Edge... Again

The last time I skated regularly, you needed 2 pair of skates, a scribe and skated patch. Triple jumps were almost unheard of, so were Bielman spins. Twizzles were only done by ice dancers and Ronald Regan was just elected into office.

Fast Forward 32 years. Starting January 2, 2012, I am back on the ice doing something else that was unheard of .... Adult Figure Skating. We had "coffee club", which was like adult swim, but there was no opportunity for testing or competition.

Update 2021. It has now been 9 years since I began adult skating. I have not competed since 2016 , but my blog is still going. My YouTube channel has over 1.76k subscribers. That’s just crazy!

Private Ice Wednesday!

I just got lucky.  People no-showed.   I went to adult skate and had a lesson .  We worked on my free dance changing some of the steps at the end of the program.  On the following session - a dance session - I  was the only one on the ice.  My music didn’t play very loud so I have the volume turned up - but it also turned up the volume of my blades grinding into the ice.  Sounds pretty crude!

  1. Yay for private ice! Great for ice dances and program run-throughs. Your pre-silvers are coming along. I don't even know how many years I've been working on mine. Are you planning on taking your free dance to Adult Nationals?

  2. I don’t think so. Im not too motivated to compete - travel, etc. I started it because I thought potentially I might do it at adult sectionals being held in Spokane next March. I think my competition days are done though. Dance is not easy. I can’t skate enough to make any progress on the three turns and posture - and twizzles.. ugh 🤦‍♀️

    1. I see. It is hard to figure out where to put our figure skating time-- we could use longer lifetimes on the ice to do all we want. Maybe you will still do it next March, just for the fun of being there and seeing folks.
