On The Edge... Again

The last time I skated regularly, you needed 2 pair of skates, a scribe and skated patch. Triple jumps were almost unheard of, so were Bielman spins. Twizzles were only done by ice dancers and Ronald Regan was just elected into office.

Fast Forward 32 years. Starting January 2, 2012, I am back on the ice doing something else that was unheard of .... Adult Figure Skating. We had "coffee club", which was like adult swim, but there was no opportunity for testing or competition.

Update 2021. It has now been 9 years since I began adult skating. I have not competed since 2016 , but my blog is still going. My YouTube channel has over 1.76k subscribers. That’s just crazy!

2-Fer Tuesday

2 lessons today back to back.  1st lesson: Freestyle with Berkley.  We had a "discussion" about my doing a Layback spin in my free skate program.  I wanted it out, but she convinced me to keep it in even though it is not laying back that far.  She is SO PERSUASIVE!  In addition we made some changes to the middle of the program and I am having trouble remembering the step sequence - That always burns up a lot of time in my lesson.

2nd lesson was with Noreen to work on the choreography of my light entertainment program.  It's 90% done now, with some added changes and footwork today.  Let me say … done on paper.  Every time I start to run the program I forget the steps and have to go back to the wall and consult my notes!

  1. Looks like you made some progress on that layback after your lesson! I'm torn between skating a dramatic program and just skating my technical program and being done.. I have an exhibition program from last summer that could become a dramatic program pretty easily. But then again I have plenty to work on for my technical program, it's still pretty rough. Guess I have a couple more days to decide.
